A Guide to Creating Healthier Apps and Infrastructure
🔔 The 12-factor methodology could be your roadmap, guiding you to avoid pitfalls and create resilient, scalable applications.
It's about adopting practices that enhance maintainability and scalability.
Here are four factors that I always start with when working with a new team:
1️⃣ Config - Store it in the environment, not in the code.
This approach is not only safer, but also easier to manage and OS-agnostic.
It makes your application more flexible and secure.
2️⃣ Stateless - Aim for stateless, share-nothing processes.
This leads to better scalability and resilience.
If data needs to persist, that's what databases are for!
3️⃣ Logs - Treat them as event streams.
This enables better monitoring and debugging, giving you insight into your application's behavior.
Your app shouldn't worry about where these logs are stored.
4️⃣ Port binding - Let your app be self-contained and export services by binding to a port.
This makes your application more independent and adaptable.
💡Coding is not only about fulfilling requirements, it's about writing code that's ready for the challenges of the real world!
