Do you know that, for most of the programmers in the planet (I would say near 90% from what I see), SW engineering is about translating a solution from a spoken language to a machine language.
IMO this is NOT engineering, it is more about a Technician job : “a specialist in the technical details of a subject or occupation”.
Of course that mastering technics and tooling is a must to have for an engineer but that is just tools.
Mastering the art of design is way harder.
Engineering is about solving problems first, implementing the solution comes next.
The SW engineer is capable of taking impactful DECISIONS in terms of HOW to do thing fonctionally AND technically.
He decides and adapts architecture that fits most the strategy and vision of the company he is working for.
He saves money and effort and works daily on optimizing costs and simplifies the solutions he offered for a spotted problem very often.
So it is more about solving a problem , the user’s problem! It is not about implementing a solution designed by a non engineer!
That’s engineering, a very far away perspective from what the market/ HR / Companies have in mind…
Hire carefully your next ENGINEER.
It is never too late to change perspective.
