People often confuses cucumber and BDD.

The tool and the methodology.

When implementing BDD I use a much simpler tool : conversation and white board.

BDD is more about understanding each other, simplification of the problem using decomposition techniques.

The real learning curve there is to focus all the energy on searching the critical path, and simplifying it by discarding waste and non essential scenarios.
Workshop after another the team masters the methodology and start drive their code by use cases , by behavioural isolated components.

Unless your PO wants to write gherkin himself, cucumber is just a waste in the path.

There is tons of tutorials out there and unfortunately 95% are just misinterpretation of concepts and bad to learn from.
